Question

Question

What data sources are supported via ODBC?

asked on September 27, 2016 Show version history

In checking out the help files and Answers posts, it seems that for Forms, Workflow and Quickfields I am limited to the following data sources using ODBC:

MS Access 2003 & 2007

CSV

MS Excel 2003, 2007, 2010 (what about 2016?)

MS FoxPro

Informix

Pervasive

MS SQL Server

Are these the ONLY datasources for which ODBC can be used for making the connection?   I did see that there are direct and custom connections that are possible, but would prefer using ODBC.  Please advise. Thank you.

Forms supports only SQL Server and Oracle data sources.

Workflow and Quick Fields will work with any data source that comes with an ODBC driver. (in other words, if you can create an ODBC data source in Windows, it will be available in Workflow and Quick Fields). Direct and Customs connections can also use ODBC drivers.

Excel 2016 is supported both in Quick Fields and Workflow.

Hi Miruna,

Is this still the case? Before I spend too much time troubleshooting the error I get when trying to create a Forms datasource using a .csv file, I might as well find out if it's even possible.

Thanks!

For lookup data sources, Forms supports all data sources with a driver

Hi Jacob,

I was wondering how did you get it working.

I want to use Excel file as a data source. I created the ODBC connection but Forms keep throwing back this error every time I test connection:

"An error occurred while testing the data source connection. See the Windows Event Log for details. [LFF2400-DataSourceConnectionError]"

Thanks.

What was the fix to that Data Source error? I am receiving the same error message.

I recreated the data source and it worked. I am not sure what was the exact error.
