Question

How to improve the speed of full-text searches?

asked on September 24, 2016

Hi all,

Does rebuilding the search catalog only suffice to improve the speed of full-text searches? Or, should strings fields be defined as less than 100 characters? Or, should the search catalog from the drive where the volumes are stored be separated?. Please advise how the speed of full-text searches be improved?

In most cases, re-building index is not necessary. Optimizing index is a better choice. String field length limit doesn't affect full-text search performance by much (It can affect database search performance). Separating search catalog drive can be helpful to search performance in some cases, especially when the fuzzy search is enabled.

You can find more information about improving index and search performance on this page, and this page.
