Recommendation to have smaller size limits for logical volume than the size of the media it is being exported to

asked on September 24, 2016

Hi all,

Why is it recommended to have smaller size limits for logical volume than the size of the media it is being exported to? Will export the volume produces XML files that will consume space as well as the volume data. Or,will the files expand again if ever the volume is compressed? Or, does data can still be added to documents in a volume at size limit? Or, for flexibility purposes in case the size and the type of backup media may change at a later stage?

Thanks to confirm.

The volume size is not a hard limit, so you may want to leave space to account for that.

Hi Brian,

Since volume size is not a hard limit, this means that exporting the volume produces XML files that will consume space as well as the volume data and data can still be added to documents in a volume at size limit. Thanks to confirm

Does this hold true: Is it recommended to have smaller size limits for logical volume than the size of the media it is being exported to in case the size and the type of backup media change? Please clarify.
