Inconsistent search results when searching by template

asked on September 14, 2016

Hello

When we are using the Field search function, and then searching by template, we are getting inconsistent search results in 2 ways.

1. If we type in "dog" into the "Title" field within a specified template, we get zero search results. If we type in *dog*, we get 9 search results. Are wildcards required for a Field search?

2. If we then do a "Common" search within the same folder for *dog* (all our templates are contained to a specific folder), we get 7 search results instead of 9. This would lead a user to believe that we had 7 ordinances about dogs instead of 9 if this was how they searched. Why would two be omitted?

Any ideas?
Thanks,

Jenny

A Common search assumes the wildcards for you.  The field search requires the full name of the term or the use of wildcards (in front, back, or both sides of the term).  As for why two are being omitted are you doing a within folder search with the field search as well?  Thats the only thing I can think of based on your post.  Otherwise just do a field search for a title of *dog* (no within folders or any other searches).  Then do a common search (all fields) for dog (no within folders or any other searches).  You should get the same or more with the common search since you are searching across all fields and not just title.
