Question

Quick fields assign field value from pick list

asked on September 14, 2016 Show version history

I am trying to set up Quick Fields so that it zone OCRs information from a pdf coversheet and assigns its values to the metadata in Laserfiche.  Two fields are not populating and we've noticed that they are 'lists' within Laserfiche.  Has anyone had success with configuring Quick Fields to populate values in to field listings in Laserfiche and what did you do to make it work?

For example, if the coversheet has "CLOSED" as the status, Quick Fields should assign "CLOSED" as the status in the metadata.  This value should retain as the status in the metadata even though the field type is a drop-down list with CLOSED and OPEN as the selections.

Are you sure your Zone OCR reads the correct value? There may be trailing or leading spaces that make it not match the value in the list.

No, there are no trailing or leading spaces.  Do you know if Quick Fields zone OCR should be able to copy metadata selected from a pick list to paste into Laserfiche metadata?  Has this been done before?

Yes, as long as the value read by Zone OCR matches the values in the list, it will work.

You've mentioned PDFs, though. Are you extracting pages from the PDF? Did you check the processing information pane to see if Zone OCR read the expected value?

I will check the processing pane and get back to you.  Yes, we are using PDFs (fillable forms).  Most of the fields within the PDFs are straight manual text input.  However, 2 field values are a pick list that users will have to select within the PDF.  Whatever they pick from the PDF should sync up to the pick list within Laserfiche.

Zone OCR does not work on PDFs. If you're not extracting pages, are you using the Retrieve Form Content process?
