Question

Field types to be used for merging fields of different types

asked on September 14, 2016

Hi all,

I want to merge two fields. One field is a set of alphanumeric characters and the other field is a set of numbers. Which field types can be used for my merged field? Please help

Is there any Laserfiche guide which explains the field types used for a merged field? Please advise.

Then the options would be "text" or "list". You can check what the allowed types are by selecting the fields in the LF Admin Console and choosing Merge Fields from the context menu. That gives you the Merge Fields dialog. The fields are not actually merged until you click OK on this dialog, so you can always open it, check what the options would be and then cancel out of it.

The types allowed will be the ones that accommodate values from all the fields merged. In your case, assuming that the first field is of type "text" and the second one is of type "number", the allowed type will be "text" all numbers can be saved as text but the reverse is not true.

Hi Miruna,

The type could be a "list" as well. Thanks to confirm
