Repository search index location change fails

asked on September 1, 2016 Show version history

We moved a repository location from one server to another by unregistering the repository, moving the repository files (AUDIT, LOGS, SEARCH, TEMP) to the new location then registering the repository again pointing to the new location. The new location is on a different server to the live RIO LF server - previously it was on the same server.

This mostly worked - the repository is now working with the settings showing the location on the new server - except there were error messages for the search - could not find catalogconfig.xml. We double checked the rights and the path, tried different path configurations - a share name and a UNC path with a d$ drive, but all failed.

We had to point the search location back to the old server and it is now working (having re-indexed overnight).

Any thoughts on why the repository could not use the search folder in the new location? One guess we had was that maybe we can't use UNC paths (although that seems to be fine for the repository location itself). We can set up a mapped drive from the live (old location) server - would that resolve this? Any other thoughts on what the problem could be?

Hi John,

It's not wise to have the search catalog on a different server to the LFFTS service. The network traffic for a start would be huge. If you want to have the Search catalog on a different server, move the LFFTS service away from the LFS service on to the different server also, that way the service is only comminicating locally.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction! smileyyes

Thanks Chris - on the basis of your advice, I'll leave the search catalog where it is until we migrate the LFFTS service (we're moving the whole RIO suite to the new server in a while). Out of interest though, does Laserfiche enforce the search catalog being on the same server as LFFTS?

I don't think it's "enforced" but it's certainly recommended. wink
