Quick Fields Server 10 Ports

asked on August 30, 2016

Looking for a little clarification on ports for QF 10 Server.

We have QF Server installed on the same server as Laserfiche.  We put in our SQL server and account but we keep getting a "connection could not be made to the specified SQL server.  Please check server name and credentials."

I know the server name and credentials are correct as they are the same server name and credentials for Laserfiche, Forms, and Workflow.  Our SQL servername is an instance and it is on a certain port.  So the servername format is:  servername\instance, port.  Example would be svr1\SQLProd, 43210

This is working for both Forms, Workflow, and Laserfiche.  Service is also starting as the same service account as all other Laserfiche services.

When we define what port QF Server will run on, does that port have to be open both ways between the server and SQL in order to connect?  Same with QF scanning workstations and server?

Thanks

In the Quick Fields Server Configuration Utility, are you connecting to SQL using Windows authentication or SQL Server authentication?

If you are using Windows authentication, then please confirm that the Windows user logged into the PC and running the Quick Fields Server Configuration Utility (Laserfiche.QuickFields.ConfigurationManager.exe) is the one that has access to SQL with the necessary rights.

You can refer to this help page where it states

During the configuration process, the Quick Fields Server Configuration Utility logs into SQL to create and configure the database. For these operations to succeed, the following SQL Server roles must be granted to the Windows user logged into the computer running the Quick Fields Server Configuration Utility: Public and DBCreator. If the SQL database is created ahead of time, then DBCreator is not necessary; however, make sure that the user running the Quick Fields Server Configuration Utility has the db_owner database role on the existing database.

If you are using SQL Server authentication, then the Windows account that's running the configuration utility shouldn't matter.

Thanks Alexander.  Actually it looked like I need to actually log into the server as the service account.  I assumed that using WA was going to use the same account that the service was running as.  So logged into the server as the actual service account and can see the databases now.

Did you check the roles that the windows user has for SQL?

Public and DBCreator.  This is the same account that was used to create all other Laserfiche databases.  Once the DB is made it makes itself the owner.

Still no go.  May need to open a case after the holiday.  For now we are just going to use Quick Fields 9.
