Question

Slowness while scanning

asked on August 29, 2016

Hi Everyone,

I am experiencing slowness issue while doing scanning. Please note that I am using LF 10.1 and due to this slowness, clean up of profiles were performed and the issue seemed to have disappeared for one week.

Unfortunately, the slowness is back and it's taking few mins to load.

Can anyone help pls?

Ketsia

Are your scanning stations connected to the Internet?

If they are not, then check this KB, it solved the same issue for me.

Hi Ketsia,

A few things to note. The speed of scanning is purely down the PC the scanner is attached to, as all the processing is done on the PC. For a scanning PC the minimum specs are actually quite low, but I would recommend at least 8GB RAM, Quad Core at 2.60GHZ or higher and SSD HDD would be preferable.

Minimum specs are here - https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/LFAdmin/Content/Installation/Preinstallation_Checklists_ClientViewer.htm?Highlight=specification

Recommended specs are here - https://www.laserfiche.com/support/webhelp/Laserfiche/10/en-US/administration/#../Subsystems/LFAdmin/Content/Installation/scanning_specifications.htm%3FTocPath%3DLaserfiche%2520Administration%2520Guide%7CLaserfiche%2520Installation%7CLaserfiche%2520Client%7CBefore%2520Installing%2520the%2520Laserfiche%2520Client%7CSpecifications%7C_____3

Bear in mind the scanning PC specs are different to the standard client. Typically the scanner should be attached to the highest spec PC in the office, along with Quick Fields if the customer has that option.

Hope this helps! smileyyes

Hello Chris,

Just wanted to highlight that all users who scan get the issue at the same time. Last time the issue got resolved when we tried to remove scan attributes for users and all users no longer faced the slowness issue.

Specs of users pcs as follows:

Hi Ketsia,

Interesting, so you are saying that all the scanner users experience the slowness at the same time? Is the slowness when you are scanning or when you are storing the images?

Cheers!

Hi Chris,

the slowness is during the whole process starting from launching scanning till storage of documents.

What exactly is slow?

Scanning process and storing of images are very slow it might take a few mins to get into the scanning window until it processes the image. This happens only during scanning. Note that we have upgraded to LF 10.1 and this issue appeared two weeks after upgrade.

Scanning and storing are separate processes, unless storing immediately is turned on. That's why I'm asking which part exactly is slow. As far as the scanning part goes, it's speed can be impacted by the processes you're running and the specs of the machine. It is possible that more processes were added and that makes a difference.

As Chris said, it's also possible that the anti-virus is interfering.

You're not providing enough information for us to make a clear determination on what direction we can provide for troubleshooting. It's probably best to open a case with Tech Support so they can remote in and investigate the problem.

Hi Chris,

the user is experiencing this issue as soon as he launches the scanning icon, i mean from that point to the storing of the image  the whole process is very slow.

Hi Ketsia,

Do you have any anti-virus running? If so can you try disabling it temporarily and see if that speeds things up. I've had a log of issue's with AV in the past, particularly with scanning.

Cheers!

Hi Chris, we are having right now the same problem after a Laserfiche upgrade to 10.1 one week ago, in some users, there is not posible to scan, an error message shows "Value cannot be null. Parameter name: s". Also "Objet reference not set to an instance of an object. In one user's pc we reinstal client 10, and it worked, but in other user's pc still not working scanning option.

Katesia, was your problem solved?

Regards,

Paula
