Question

Workflow 9 move to new SQL Server

asked on August 24, 2016

We're moving our LF Workflow 9.02.245 to a new SQL server. I've been trying to find a white paper going over how to do this, but with no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

We've got quite a lot of workflows  - around 100. Will I need to do anything at an individual workflow level, or will system-wide changes be picked up?

If you're only moving the database, stop the Workflow Server and Subscriber services, detach and move the database, then run the Workflow Configuration wizard and point the Workflow Server to the new SQL server and the moved database.

Thanks - I think I understand that. I've just realised thought that a lot of my WFs have got hard coded connection strings in VB scripts, so will need to change those individually anyway :(

Are you keeping the old SQL server running or taking it down? If you're decommissioning it, you should be able to get away with adding a DNS alias with its name on the new server.

That's a good idea, but the old server needs to stay up for a few months sadly

Hi Miruna, how do I run the Workflow Configuration wizard? Is that in Workflow Admin Console? I can't find the wizard option anywhere.

The Workflow Configuration Wizard is a separate utility and only installed on the Workflow Server itself.

Ah, is that the Workflow Configuration Manager? I was looking for a Wizard within the Admin console
