Question

View electronic document button Web Access

asked on August 11, 2016

Hi,

My customer would like to add the 'View electronic document' button to the toolbar to be able to open PDFs in the native application rather than right clicking and selecting 'Open->Electronic File. But for some reason the button is grayed out even though PDF is selected. The PDFs open as expected when right clicked. I also tested with a Word document, and it does illuminate the icon. Is there a reason why this button won't work with PDFs or is this potentially a bug? They're using Web Access 9.2.0.67 with a 9.2.1.518 server.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

I can reproduce the behavior you described. The toolbar button 'View Electronic File' remains disabled when a PDF is selected.

There is a setting in Web Access that might provide the behavior you're looking for. If you go to Settings->Document Viewer->Options,  you can set 'Open PDF files by default'  to 'Open files in new tab'. With this setting enabled, double clicking on a PDF will open the PDF file in a new tab using your browsers default PDF viewer.

If you'd like to download the file locally and open it in Adobe, I recommend trying the toolbar button 'Export Electronic File'.

I think one of these two features will provide an alternative to 'View Electronic file'.
