default value on template

Hello, 

 

I made a field on a template that has a default value of "No".

in the preview it says that it is working and it does work if I put the template on a new document

I also need it to apply for all the other documents that this template is already added to. Below is what the template looks like if the template is already added to the document. 

Am I missing a step?

Can someone please help me out.

Default values only apply when the template is first assigned to the document.  If you need to set the new value on a large number of documents, you can run a search and update that one field.

As you found, your template default data only applies at creation. My recommendation would be to just do a search for everything in that template. Then sort by Public and select everything where it is blank.

 

From there, you can right click on a document and choose "Fields" or "Metadata" depending which version of Laserfiche you are on and change it there.
