Question

Laserfiche Upgrade- 9.2 to 10.1

asked on August 10, 2016

Hello,

We are currently on Laserfiche Server 9.2 and are looking to upgrade to 10.1. Can we upgrade to server 10.1 while still leaving web access, quickfields, etc. on their current versions 9.x? What would be the recommendation for upgrading all of the Lasefiche products? Is there a certain order that needs to be followed (compatible wise) ? Are there any known issues with leaving some apps on 9.x while having others on 10.x?

Thanks!

Hi Jorge,

As a general rule of thumb, it's always best to have everything on the latest version. Having said that, as long as the LF Server itself is the highest version of all the installed products, it should run just fine. In regards to what's actually 'supported' that would need to come from Laserfiche.

Hope this helps! yes

We did something similar, we upgraded the server to 10.1 but kept most people on the 9.2 client while we did testing. The 9.2 client mostly worked. The people with 9.2 started getting access errors they had never received before even though access rights hadn't been changed. Once we upgraded everyone to 10.1 they went away.

As Chris said, it is always better to have them all on the same version.

I'm curious what specific actions were encountering access denied errors?

We were getting them when users would drag and drop into folders or try to save from the LF tab in word. The weird thing was that the documents would move and save just fine, but still display the errors. After we upgraded it all seemed to work except for one folder that still gave the access denied error even though it functioned properly. We ended up deleting the folder and making an exact copy with all the same permissions and it no longer had any problems. Maybe we have gremlins in our system...

If you still have a 9.2 client that can reproduce one of these problems, we'd appreciate it if you could get a trace log to help us track it down. The LF server should be fully backward compatible with older clients, it has special handling to accommodate the quirks associated with each past version.
