when I scan documents and store them to the repository, the document is stored as a PDF
Question
Question
why does scanned document store as a PDF
Replies
Quick Fields would only store PDFs if the documents being scanned are PDFs, and the options for converting to TIFF images are not enabled.
Which scan source are you using? (Scan -> Choose Scan Source)
Scan Connect
Can you show the PDFs in the repository?
Here it is stored as a pdf. this document was scanned thru quick fields 9.0
Can you open the document and see if the pdf shows up in the electronic file pane and the image shows up in the image pane?
Other information that might be helpful:
- What type of scanner you are using?
- What does your Quick Fields session look like?
It's a Fujitsu scanner and I'm not sure of the series. I am the laserfiche Administrator (about a year or so now). The issue was reported by agency coworker and I don't have a copy of her quick field session handy. Is there a setting in the quick field session to convert to Tiff images.
So do you know if it happens on every document, or just this one?
There is a setting in Quick Fields to convert a PDF to TIFF images (and delete the original PDF if desired), but given that the image in your screenshot appears to be a totally different document than the PDF, I don't think that's the only issue here. Perhaps merge options were used and the PDF already existed?
Regardless, we're unlikely to be able to get to the bottom of this issue without the session.
It does not happen on every document. this is 1 of the documents that it happened with. I didn't actually scan the document, it was scanned in by another user who reported the issue to me to try and resolve. I remoted into her machine to see if I could spot anything different with the session and did not see anything right off. So I thought I would reach out to the laserfiche community to see it this had occurred with anyone else. I did look at other session to try and find out where to apply the settings to convert to PDF but haven't been able to find it. Any directions would be appreciated. thanks for you help & time...hope you have a great weekend.
Quick Fields doesn't convert images to PDFs.
From what you've shown me, here is my best guess at what happened:
A PDF with the name "SWEET ALICES PLACE INC 11968527" already existed in Laserfiche. Then, someone used Quick Fields to scan a new TIFF image, name it "SWEET ALICES PLACE INC 11968527", and store it to Laserfiche. If the Quick Fields Session had document merging enabled, then the TIFF from Quick Fields would be combined with the PDF document in Laserfiche because of the matching names. This could result in something like what you showed in that screenshot - a single document with one image and another, totally different-looking, PDF.
If you think this is possibly what happened, you can read about the merging options here and decide if you want to choose a different option for scenarios where new documents have the same name as an existing document. You may also want to have Quick Fields give your documents more unique names to avoid name conflicts.
Hopefully this helps!
(If not, then you'll probably need to be able to re-create the issue yourself in order to troubleshoot further.)
