Question

Is there the ability to upload a custom dictionary for searching on abbreviations?

asked on July 19, 2016

Hi guys,

We have a query regarding the ability for a user to search on abbreviations within repository documents.  For example, a user needs to find all documents referencing the word "transmission", however in many instances rather than writing out the full word the author will have used "tx".  Is there a means of uploading an abbreviations dictionary so that any search on "tx" will return hits on both "tx" and "transmission" (or vice versa), or is it a case of them needing to use both in the search query/syntax?

Thanks,

Mike

As of Laserfiche 9.2.1, the Full-Text search engine supports using a thesaurus.

If you create and configure the thesaurus with all your required abbreviations following the instructions and samples provided, your users should be able to search for tx or transmission and get back documents that contain either.

Note that since this is supported by the Full-Text search, it only applies to indexed searches, which includes document text, annotation text, comments (tag, version, etc.) and fields specified as indexed by administrators.
