Question

8.2 Basic Search VS 9.2 Basic Search

asked on July 15, 2016

For our client, In old version of laserfiche(8.2) when using the basic field search for one of our customers, it returns all of the docs (25). Which matches if we use a advanced search. But in version 9.2 it does not return the same results. If I search using the template search for the same customer it will return 25 entries, but if I use the basic field search it only returns 7 items. They have searched several of our settings and are unable to find any differences from their older and current versions.

I have also asked them to double check the basic settings next to the magnifying glass, and they confirmed with me that they are in fact the same.

Thanks for the help

Ah, I see what the issue is now, and it's not related to the changes I linked above (link again for reference).

In your search, you have added the "Customers TIN" field but left it blank. In newer versions of the Laserfiche Client, this will run a search for "the field is applied but is blank". In older versions, it will ignore the blank field completely when generating the syntax.

If you look at which results are shown, you see it's every result from the quick search that doesn't have a TIN.

I don't recall the exact version between 8.2 and 9.2 when this changed (8.3? 9.0?) but it was added because many people wished for a way to search for a field being being applied but blank without needing to use the search syntax.

If you do a template search, blank fields are ignored. In your case, you would simply remove the extra field in your search.

There were changes made to the search behavior in the Laserfiche 9.1 that could be affecting your search. However,  to troubleshoot search differences, we really need an example query. Can you provide a screenshot with an example search term and the advanced search syntax that generates?

I'm a little confused by your screenshots. Are you having issues with a field search for customer name, a quick search for customer id, or both?

For the field search by customer name, can you add the advanced search block (making sure that it's not included in the query) and show what the syntax generated is?

For the customer ID search: do any of these searches involve characters other than numbers, such as a -?

Hi Brianna, I am working with Corey on this. It seems 8.2 Advanced Search and quick search pull the same correct results. However the clients are all being upgraded to 9.2. We did the exact same search in 9.2 Advance (which does not pull the correct result), then we tested the 9.2 quick search and it does pull the correct result. I know the quick search assumes the wild card, where Advanced does not. I have included screen shots of the results.

We are doing a field search for duerbeck c (field is all we have checked up quick search)

In 8.2 either Advanced or quick pulls back 25 finds

9.2 quick search with only field selected also pulls back 25 (we tried with and without the * after the name, same result)

9.2 Advanced search only returns 7 finds.

Please see screen shots attached.

Also in the online Laserfiche User Guide I see searching changed in 9.1 however I can't find exactly what changed. Can you please direct me as to where I could find exactly what changed. Thanks Wendi
