Question

Slow browsing repository

asked on July 14, 2016 Show version history

Hello

We have laserfiche setup on a single virtual machine we only have a small handful of active users.  We have used laserfiche for quite a few years.  The database is on physical SQL cluster with lots of ram and  repository  is on another physical box with lots of ram.  All server are on the same rack everything is connected by Gb network.  Recently my main end user started to report slow browsing from the client.  I used the client on the server and it also appears to be slow.  To open a folder and scroll within a folder it can take sometime to see the list of files.  It can take up to 30 seconds.

I never used the product that much so I have no means of comparison

There are tons of variables, but I would look at some of these as a starting point.

  1. Has database maintenance ever been performed on the Laserfiche database? Rebuilding indexes might be a good place to start.
  2. What sort of columns are showing? I recommend removing all columns that are not necessary, columns such as Path and File size are slow.
  3. How many items are in a folder? I do not recommend having more than 10k items in a folder if possible if you have a browse heavy workload.
  4. Enabling bypass Browse privilege on the user account. This item will make it so it does not check each item for security when it displays contents of a folder. It will still not let them open the file if they do not have permission.
