Question

Extract Current Path into a Field

asked on July 14, 2016

We are currently migrating documents from one template to another and moving data to a new folder structure. I would like to create a new field called OLD FOLDER PATH to capture the info for posterity. Is there a way I can capture or extract the current path and put that information into a field within the metadata so I can have the old path structure as part of my metadata? Then I would move the file to the new folder path.

Hi Gloria

Yes you can using find activity and then use full path token to extract its path and save it into your field.

please let me know if it helps.

So it sounds like I need to use workflow and cannot do this directly in Laserfiche. That'll work but was hoping it would be easier. Thanks for the info!

Workflow is the way to go. I am not sure if this can be done in the client.

So, I'm new a workflow. Why do I only see "Global"?

I guess you don't have any activity before find entry that's why.  Maybe you could use at to locate a single file or use Find Entries to locate all files in a folder and then using a loop copy each file path to field before moving it.

Does that make sense?
