Question

Laserfiche on Cloud

asked on July 13, 2016

I have a client who is intending to host Laserfiche on cloud (Microsoft Azure). The configuration is Avante 2 users under SQL Express. Is there any incompatibilities or problems in hosting it on cloud to be taken into consideration?

Hi Farah,

Speed is obviously the main consideration, cloud based systems are never going to be as fast as on-premise solutions. Having said that, we have many customers who operate cloud based deployments. The key questions are, is the entire network cloud based and if so, in the same datacentre? If you have fat clients deployed locally and a cloud based system, performance is not going to be brilliant without some serious internet pipes. Clients aside, scanning and printing is usually the biggest issue with cloud based systems as there is no way to remotely set this up, it has to be physically on site. If the scanning volumes are high you will have to make a plan to deal with this.

From a compatibility point of view, there is no issues with Laserfiche. Laserfiche as an application is completely unaware that it's installed in the cloud (or even on a virtual machine for that matter!)

Hope this helps point you in the right direction! smileyyes

This would only be applicable if Azure still changes the HWFP of the machine on re-boot. Having said that, as long as you are aware of this, you would be able to deal with it accordingly.
