Saved Searches - Feature Request for Tips Options

asked on July 11, 2016 Show version history

I would really like to be able to build tips for my staff, such as the following:

  • They access a Saved Search, such as this one called, "Search for an Invoice".
  • Somewhere in the window (clip shown below), there would be a Tip highlighted that would say, "Hit Search, then click on the column for Creation Date to find the most recent in the list."

I'm attempting one tip at the moment, by building it into the Entry Name of the Saved Search.  This Saved Search actually says    and they have to wipe out what it says there and add their own name before hitting search.

There is another way to do it. Do you have laserfiche forms? It would be a good idea to create a form which takes all of the information that you would like to include in your tip like vendor name etc. and it could also take other extra information like date and an email address to send all that information to.

Once form is submitted it would pass that information to your workflow which would search and then send an html email with the list of all the entries found with their entry ids.

For single entry like most recent one you could also attach .lfe shortcut or give link to each file as well if you have web access.

Forms would allow search customization that could be very hard for a regular user otherwise.

Please take a look at the email part of this to get the basic idea.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure that would work for us.  Our users are really new to all this and we're looking for ways to simplify things for them.

Why not create a quick search. That way they don't have to worry about removing the name. They just need to select the correct search. You have done all the work for them. I created something similar for my crew.

In that case, you could create a video tutorial showing all the steps involved with your saved search and rest of the information as tip.

You could save all the tutorials in your repository along with user manuals and give everyone access to that folder.

This could be a great place to start.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  I've tried the videos, the manuals, the "quick tips" documents, cheat sheets with info, one-on-one training (which is the best, if they will give you the time).  I've created about 10 Saved Searches and, lately, have been sitting with people one-on-one to see what they know, get them into LF to help them stop being afraid of it.  Learning that people have either forgotten my tips and/or haven't even attempted to use LF even when it would be useful to them.  Too many people here completely afraid of anything new.  :(
