Question

Laserfiche Authentication Service 9.2 vs 10.0

asked on July 8, 2016

Many of the clients after upgrade to Laserfiche 10.0+ the Laserfiche Authentication Service 9.2 service still runs by default.  Is there a reason for this or does the 10.0 server offer some more updated services?

Is there a list of the differences between the two?

The 9.2 service isn't running as well so if a service required it running would it not run properly with the 10.0 service?  That makes sense but I just needed some clarification that if the 9.2 service still exists then they must have services that still need it.  Which means I would need to make sure the 9.2 service is running over the 10.0 until those applications are brought forward.

Am I to understand that all 10.0+ applications are backwards compatible with the 9.2 service then?

I think I will bump this for 2022. Still unclear why if all services use the same port they are not set to manuall and started programatically as needed. Maybe it doesn't matter as it is working, but IT is always concerned as to why services are failing to start and we get asked from time to time.

To be more specific, we have 10.3, 10.4, and 11.0 Authentication Services running on our server and set to start automatically.  When restarting the server only 10.3 actually starts.  I have manually stopped 10.3 and started 11.0 simply because 11.0 is what was running prior to restarting the server.

I just installed a fresh version of 10.4 with all components on the same server and the 10.3 Laserfiche Authentication Service is running but the 10.4 Laserfiche Authentication Service won't start and generates a Server Manager Dashboard warning. I s this anything to be concerned about?

Hi Chase,

Are there any Laserfiche applications on the machine that are still earlier versions? It's as simple as some products use the 9.2 version and some use the 10.0 version - it determines which versions of internal libraries they use. It might be that a 10.x version is still using the 9.2 version as well because they never updated those specific internal libraries.

Hi Justin,

I've seen this same issue when upgrading Web Access from 9 to 10 for several customers as well. I understand that it is only used for Web Access? So, what applications are you referring to that would still use 9.2 Auth Service after upgrading WA to 10?

In my experience, I've been successfully stopping and disabling the 9.2 service when such happens. I thought maybe it was an upgrade bug.

Thanks

Hi,

Any answers on this?

Just after a Client of ours upgraded to 10.3.1, they noticed they have two Laserfiche Authentication Services, one for 9.2 and the other for 10.3.  Currently only the 9.2 version is running. When they try to to start the 10.3 Authentication service, it stops immediately.

Upon further tesiting it appears that stopping the 10.3 in Services and starting the 10.4 seems to resolve an issue of signing into Web Client from another 2016 Server IE browser. My windows 7 client seems to sign-in fine with either 10.3 or 10.4 running.

Should I set 10.3 to manual and leave 10.4 as automatic?

Please advise Justin.

Thanks.

I would like to Bump this as we just upgraded a customer from 9.2 to 10.4.1 and LFS installed LF Auth 10.3 and 10.4 and the LF 10.3 Auth service is running instead of the 10.4 Auth Service.

The only thing on this server that is running an older version is Import Agent as we updated it to 10.3.
