Question

Question

When trying to click and drag a file by turning it blue .

asked on July 5, 2016 Show version history

When trying to move a file in Laser Fiche at one time you clicked it, turned it blue then dragged it to the desired folder. Now you can't move it by turning it blue by selecting it. you have to un select the file by clicking on something else (un turning it blue)and then drag the desired file into the desired location. If I want to move several at one time this will not allow me to do this and have to drag them each seperately. Is there something not turned on in Laser Fiche or is this something new in 10.1?

This works for me when I try it.  Can you post a recording of what you are seeing/trying?  I tool like Jing is good for that.

I have posted a couple of different replies if you could look!

Here’s my synopsis(IT) -

In Laser Fiche 8.3.2 you were able to click on the document name and drag into another folder. Other columns were unable to be selected and moved. Even if other columns were placed first in column order you had to click on the document name column to drag it.

In Laser Fiche 10.1 only the first column is able to be selected and moved. It’s no longer dependent on the document name column but on the first column in the view.

Is this a bug?

Ok, I can reproduce this.  I don't know if this change was intentional or not, I'll pass along the information to the engineer in charge of the Windows client.

Which can you reproduce? The Search and the column thing or one or the other, cause I am having both issues.

The Column thing is weird. Have to be in the first column to drag. In other version, 8, it didn't matter.

The search is not locking down and saving the fields that are selected like in the other version. Is it maybe something that isn't checked(in a box) that needs turned on or a bug?

Here are some recordings of what I'm trying to do. When files are highlighted I can't move to desired location. I have to deselect desired file then I can click and drag to desired location. If several are selected because they are highlighted I can't move to desired location which in this instance is the inbox.

So we, IT and I, have cleared attributes and it worked on a single file. Over night it went away. Also does not save the search that I select when going into the magnify glass. I choose say, field search, close out and re enter laser fiche then go back to magnify glass it is back to original and have to re select field search.

Mine isn't the only machine doing this.

I can't reproduce what you are seeing with the drag/drop. I can always drag by the name column. I think you should open a support case, as this isn't the appropriate place to troubleshoot bugs.

If you can still drag the entry (whether through the name column or another), how is this a bug?

Was asking if it was. Apparently not. Just couldn't figure out why, when I moved the loan number column in the front of the Name column, I then could not move the file buy the name column. With the loan number in column 1 position and name in position 2 and trying to drag by the Name column in position 2 you can not drag it to the desired file. You have to drag from column 1 only! regardless of what the column is named. In previous version we had, 8, didn't matter where you grabbed the document to drag to the desired file.

Hi Bryon,

I have a related question - do you find that you often have situations where a different column is moved to position 1 and, if so, do you generally consider those valid or an accidental scenario. That is, do you think users should be allowed to put a different column in position 1 in the first place? Just trying to get a sense for that aspect of things. Thanks!

Hello Justin,

I find it easier to see the loan number in front of the name of the file as to see both at the same time with ease. As I use laser fiche all day and in and out of the program. I have to search, fix or move different docs to different places and it is just easier for me. just didn't know that you had to drag from the first column only. was just wondering if this was meant to be effect or something that was not working correctly. We just upgraded to 10. Have had version 8 for 3 years and worked in it for that amount of time all day. I knew there would be differences in the versions, but didn't know.

Gotcha, that makes sense.

I wouldn't say this was necessarily an intended change, but was likely due to some other update or enhancement that's been added since version 8. We can look into seeing if it's something that's easy to tweak but it might be needed for another enhancement.

Justin,

Sounds cool Sir.

I guess the second question would be the search not staying with selected search options. Don't know if it is a us thing, or what. When I open LF and do a search, I use field search, user and date format. If I close out of LF and come back in the program, the selections that I have set are gone. it reverts to the default selections in the program I think. I have saved the format in the program so I then load it and continue to work. Sometimes, even if I get out of search, I will have to reset the search selections again. See the video. In the video my IT took out the time that it took to close and reopen the LF program. Could it be a "box" not checked to save the Selection that needs to be turned on?

Hey Justin,

Did you have any input on the search feature that I asked about in this question?  I'd really appreciate your feedback on that also.

Thanks,

Bryon

The client records your search layout when you click "Search" to run the search. If you make changes to the search layout (or load a saved search) without running the search, it won't remember those changes.

As a note, SCR 149008 has been filed for the drag/drop issue.

To summarize the issue:

In the Client, select an entry or multiple entries. The selection should have a blue highlight (when using the standard Windows theme). Now with a new click/hold action, try to drag the selection to a new target to effectively move the entries.

If the click/hold action was done in the first column position of any entry in the selection, then the drag/move operation works fine.

However, if the click/hold action was done outside the first column position of any entry in the selection, then the drag/move operation doesn't work.

The caveat to this is that if the click used to finalize the initial entry selection is the same action to hold the mouse button down and drag the selection, then dragging/moving will work when the click/hold was done outside of the first column. This includes performing Ctrl/Shift selection.

Robert,

First, I am using the advance search, NOT a fuzzy which takes entirely to long! To broad of a search, this being the reason I choose to use the Field or user and date combination search. In the PREVIOUS version when selecting the search engine to be used, the program SAVED your selections. Even over the weekend and shutting down the computer,  restarting the program on Monday the search selections remained!

Second.  I am fully aware that program saves the selection that is chose.  As far as it saving the search, it is not saving the search that has been selected in the field, this being the reason behind the question of why isn't it SAVING the fields that are being selected!

I will break it down. I click on the LF logo, opening the program. I wait for the repository to load.  I then click on Open button, it opens the program. I then click in the upper left corner of the window on the magnifying glass , it then opens the search. I then close what ever the search has up. Sometimes it might be common search, it also might be basic search. I then click on customize search. I then choose Date, field and user. I then click the close button. Then I click on the CHOOSE FIELD button and select loan number and close out. I then click the little minus button (-) next to the selected search engine and close them as I don't need to enter the data in those 2 fields. I then enter the loan number data and hit either ENTER key or click the search button itself. once I have completed my work, I either continue to scan or exit the program. Upon re-entering the program and try to do a search the fields that I have selected are not saved and it has reverted back tho the original common search or basic search.  I have also closed out and re entered the program. used the date and user filter and have the field search up also. search using user and date. get out of the program and when I re enter the program and the search Field search is gone and the user and date are there.

Try clearing your temporary internet files from within Internet Explorer, that is where the LF client stores the search configuration. See this link for instructions on clearing the temporary internet files.

Already have. I don't use internet explorer. But have cleared my browser history and cookies.

Actually, it's specifically important to do this in Internet Explorer. The search pane in the desktop Client uses an Internet Explorer control, so even if you don't use IE otherwise, that would be where the settings would be saved for the search pane.

(I wasn't sure if you meant you had done so in IE, or in your normal browser)

Justin,

Yes had done in both. I use chrome but cleared the IE. To no avail. still happens.

Hi Bryon,

At this point the best option may be to talk with your reseller about opening up a support case. Support will be able to directly examine your setup to see if there's something specific about your scenario here.
