Emailed Password Protected PDF's

asked on July 1, 2016 Show version history

We have a client that is trying to password protect PDF's in their repository when using the email function, but they have found that it only password protects TIFF documents and not PDF's.

I have updated their client to the most recent hotfix I could find (8.2.1.724) but that still didn't resolve.

On my system, 10.1, there is no issue with emailing and password protecting PDF's.

Do you know what version this was resolved in?

The difference is probably how the file is being sent, rather than the version you are using.

You can only set a password on a PDF when creating a PDF to email, by sending the Laserfiche TIFF images pages and choosing to export them as a PDF. You cannot set a password on an existing PDF. This is true even in 10.1, as far as I'm aware.

In the scenario where you see that you can set a password, you may actually be setting the password on the zip file that will contain your PDF. To check if this is the case, you can click on the "Email Settings..." button and look at whether the "Combine attachments into one zip file" is checked.
