Saved Searches in Web Access

asked on July 1, 2016 Show version history

We have a client that has Saved Searches from the thick client and wants to access the Saved Searches via Web Access, but is not seeing them available. Would he need to recreate these in Web Access?

Also, he has seen that on the thick client he can create saved searches and push them out to his users via editing attributes in the admin console.  Is he able to do the same thing in Web Access?

The desktop client and Web Access use different formats for storing the saved searches, so they need to be created separately.  And yes, you can push the saved searches in Web Access to the everyone group.

Robert, just got onto this Answers string and see that I can push out saved searched in Web Client.  You mentioned pushing out to the Everyone group.  What if I want to push to a Windows Group with rights in Laserfiche?  How would I go about doing that?  And how would I push to the Everyone group if I can't push to the specific group?  Please advise, thanks.

The 10.3 web client has a new feature - applying saved searches to groups. See the help page for more information. Note that this only applies to the web client, the windows client saves searches differently and does not currently support them on the group level.  To apply directly to the everyone (supported in all versions of the web and windows clients) you would do the following:

  • Configure the saved search in the web client while signed in as your account.
  • Open the LF admin console to the properties page for your account.
  • Go to the "Attributes" tab.
  • Select the [WebAccess]SavedSearches attribute(s) and click "Export" to save them as an xml file.
  • Go to the "Attributes" tab on the "Everyone" group and use the "Import" button to import that xml file:
    • Note: this will copy all of your user's saved searches. If you want to just copy one of them, you can edit the exported xml file to delete the searches you don't want included (if you know how to read XML).

Robert,  we are not yet at 10.3, so I will need to look at addressing this either by applying to the Everyone group or by setting them individually for group members.  I appreciate the additional tip about all the searches being saved.  That would have caught me unawares for sure!
