Laserfiche Forms Cookie Size Affecting Form Access

asked on December 14, 2015 Show version history

Since we upgraded to Laserfiche Forms 9.2 we have had some users lose access to forms in which they have been granted access to and could previously submit in version 9.1. Through testing I've found that the complexity of a user's AD group membership affects the size of the .LFFORMSGROUP cookie. It seems when a user is added to enough AD groups to push this cookie's size beyond 4k the user can't access any processes in Laserfiche Forms because the cookie isn't created. My VAR is looking into this but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

We applied the KB 1013728 fix to our Forms 9.2.1 site and it works. One side-note is to have the affected users clear their browser's cookies so the application can recreate them. Then everything works great. Thanks again Laserfiche for quick response to the issue.

Looks like this isn't necessarily a Forms issue (although the data should be stored in another medium to overcome this limit), but is a browser limitation. This post and this post looks to explain the restrictions. You can test your browser by going here to see what the current limits are. I did so and these are my results (latest version of Chrome):

Chris, thank you very much for this info. I realized I was hitting the ~4k cookie limit but I didn't know that IE8 and higher has a ~5k limit. Directing affected Forms users to use IE8 or higher gives them a little more cookie size to work with and that may fix the issue for some.  I'm wanting to know what Laserfiche's stance is for this issue. I need to know if they plan on using another medium to store the group membership data in a future release or if we will have to work around the issue indefinitely.

Hi Brandon, this is a known issue for Forms 9.2.1 and Forms 10. The work around for this is to add the user directly in access right page for the processes.  We will find another suitable medium to store the group membership for future release.

Xiuhong, thank you for the response and willingness to address this issue. I am dealing with the workaround almost daily.
