Question

Question

Webaccess accelerator multiple location

asked on October 18, 2015 Show version history

Dears,

If we have a Laserfiche installation of multiple branches, can we install in each branch a web access server with web accelerator on the same web access server?

Another questions, is the accelerator purpose only performance or it helps in saving bandwidth when a branch access the same file multiple time?

My last question, how accelerator deal with electronic documents, specially when an electronic document is edited?

just to explain my above scenario.

A company has many branches, they want to have Laserfiche installed in the HQ. There will be a workflow for Auto-cad files between branches; I mean auto-cad files need to be accessible from the multiple branches and they also need to be updated by the engineers. Tow questions are here:

1- AutoCad files are big size (> 50 MB), so it will be a problem if each time an engineer needs to open /edit the file, the file will download from the central HQ.

2- Bandwidth consuming.

thanks,

are there any solution for the above two points in Laserfiche?

It's possible to install a Web Access instance and a Web Accelerator instance in each location, but of course you need a license for each installation.  The primary benefit of Web Accelerator is that you can offload image manipulation work to another machine, so installing it on the same machine as Web Access isn't ideal.  On the other hand, if that machine already has unused resources (CPU, memory) you might not see a lot of benefit.

There can be a benefit to bandwidth, but this will mostly depend on your specific use cases.  WX will download page data one time and share it between users, which is something WA does not currently do.  This only helps if different users look at the same documents.  WX does not do anything with electronic documents, those have to be downloaded from Web Access each time they are accessed.
