Question

the internet address is not valid

asked on July 24, 2015

When using Agenda Manager and attempting to edit a document I am prompted with "The internet address '<address>' is not valid." Prior to this issue the edit button for documents was not appearing within Agenda Manager. I have looked into the event viewer to see if there were any errors and attempted it on multiple machines and no errors were recorded. I tried to download the document instead and then upload it and this worked correctly. The only issue is with the edit button. I was wondering if this was a known issue or if it is suggested to open a support case for this as there was a previous issue with the button not appearing.

How does the URL in the dialog look to you?  Is the host name correct, does the path look reasonable?  Can the client resolve an IP address for that hostname?  Do you see anything in the IIS logs on the target machine?

The host name is correct the URL seems fine. There is a value prior to the document name in a format similar to this https://servername/.../{xxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx}<documentName>.ext.  I have tried the same on the server and unfortunately it does not have the edit button on the server given that the server is on IE10. I will check the IIS logs. Is there anything in particular in the IIS logs that I should be looking for?

The error message implies (to me at least) that the request never made it to the server.  Checking the IIS logs would just be verifying that interpretation.

Is it possible it's an http/https mix-up?  The screenshot shows one but your post here says the other.  If the machine only accepts one type of connection and an application tries the other it might result in that error message.

I will be having a remote with the customer to check the IIS logs. When I try to hit edit on the document it is showing a different IP address than the one in the URL when being prompted if it is safe to open the document. Would this cause the issue as well?

When I try to ping the IP address that it is opening it does not resolve. When I ping the IP address in the URL it resolves. I did check the registry on the machine to see if there was anything I could find under agenda manager that would have a different IP address. Is there a section in the add on that can change the log in that it is pointing to or another location in the registry that can be changed as well? When I checked the registry it had the correct server name. I tried to ping the server name and it was the same as in the URL. I also flushed DNS.

You'll want to get a better idea of their network setup.  It could be that the server has 2 network cards, or there could be a proxy server in front of the web server.  Somehow it looks like the IP address that Agenda Manager thinks that clients should use does not match the one that they should be using, which could be caused by the above or could just be misconfiguration - the administration tool lets you set the hostname to use to cover exactly these scenarios.

Is there a reason they are using IP addresses rather than host names?
