Recover Deleted Folders (v 7.2.1.0407)

asked on February 19, 2015 Show version history

Hi, we have a bit of a problem...

We are not technical..., just so keep things simple...

We had some odd stuff go on with our database yesterday which resulted a couple of TEMP files being created in the tree structure...

No body knew what these were and they were deleted..., it turns out they were the root of one of the main folders...

3 hours later they noticed that this particular folder, called "Limited" had completely disappeared...

Is there any way we can get this back or recover it...?

If the worst comes to the worst how easy is it to restore the whole lot from a backup..?

There is, but not an easy way. You can recover from a backup or contact you VAR to see if LF Support has a way of doing it through the database.

If you upgrade your installation, Laserfiche now includes a recycle bin so you just restore it. Might think about upgrading.

If this was a file in the Laserfiche Repository you should be able to go into the recycle bin and restore. If deleted from the recycle bin then there is no recovery other than if you have a backup of the Laserfiche volume and database.

I don't believe the recycle bin was introduced until version 8.

Thanks Blake, didn't realize they had version 7. Version 7 didn't have a recycle bin. Version 7 was before my time as a VAR, so if there is a way to recover other than through restore of a backup I don't know what it is.

LF7 did not have a recycle bin unfortunately.  If they were deleted from the Repository, it would have to be recovered from both the volumes and the SQL db.

The only way to do that would be from a backup of both the volumes and the SQL* files.

When you say "both volumes", how do you mean...?

"Both volumes and SQL". It means you have to restore both.  You cannot just restore the images in the volume nor just the SQL db. You have to restore the images and the SQL db.

Ok, That's what I figured it would have to be from backup recovery

Thanks All, very much appreciated..., it looks like we are in trouble then....

Could someone help me with exactly which directories and files need to be restored..?

I think the whole lot was just a very standard install and lives under the LFDATA folder on the D: drive...

Many thanks in advance...
