Question

Can the template layout be changed?

asked on September 15, 2014

Hi all,

I'd like to change the template layout to display two columns instead of one. Can this be done? I was thinking it might be possible by editing LF.CSS and maybe master.js. Has anyone done this before or have the skills to know how to do it?

Also, I'm sure it's not supported and I realise the issues when upgrading but I need to find out still.

Regards,

Ben

Hey Ben,

You may be able to figure out a way to modify the template layout, but it's not something that we can offer too much help with.  To the best of my knowledge, the developers haven't tested this and I haven't heard of any customers using a similar configuration.

If you are able to figure out a way to do this, I would be very interested in checking out the results!  I can definitely visualize situations where this would be useful, and depending on the complexity of this configuration, it may even be included as a built in feature in a future version.

For the record, I'm making the request for the fat client but if this can be done for the Web Access then that's a win, too.

For those who might try with the fat client, the files are the folder:

%programfiles(x86)%\Laserfiche\Client\lfaux_global

AKA...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Laserfiche\Client\lfaux_global

and in the "old money" of 32bit...

C:\Program Files\Laserfiche\Client\lfaux_global

I would highly recommend when doing something like this to have the CSS operate when the width of the browser is set to a minimum size this way it will only be used when it can properly be seen.

I am looking forward to seeing what people recommend but have not ever tried this out myself.

Anyone in LF want to take a stab at this? Justin, Joanna, Michael, Randy?

The primary requirement is to create a tabular view of metadata or rows of fields to represent invoice line items.

We've got the skills in-house to create a customer UI but perhaps there is another way.

Thanks for the reply Rob,

Maybe I can find a license for Dreamweaver (or what ever the kids are using these days) to edit the CSS as it's not something I'm good at. We may go down the custom UI route but I'll keep you posted if we do something with the form.

Back in the LF 7.x days, modifying the forms was a method used to create dynamic fields. I think there's a KB for it somewhere actually... Not sure where we got the instructions from.
