Question

Workflow Fill PDF activity filling in form data but the fields appear blank when viewed/printed

asked on May 7, 2014

Hi Laserfiche community,

I have been having this issue for sometime and would like to know if there is any work around. I have a couple forms created using Adobe Acrobat. However, one or two of the forms seem to be giving me issues. When workflow fills in these forms from a SQL table and completes. I go back into the repository to view the form and all the fields show blank. When I click on the field/textbox it shows data was filled in correctly, but clicking off the field/textbox makes it go back to being blank. If i were to manually insert these values in adobe reader and save the form, it works as expected. I have attached a sample form. If you view this form you will see a bunch of blank fields but when u click on a field like Permit# or Address, you will see there are values present.

I do not have those advanced options list for the Fill Out PDF Activity. Maybe because I am on workflow version 9.0.2.245.

Click the gear at the top of the properties pane to bring up the advanced options.

You should also be aware that it could be the format of the PDF itself. While many types of PDF's are able to be fillable, not all work with the Workflow activity unless you are choosing to make the changes permanent. That seems to always work but sometimes a client simply does not want it to be a permanent filling of the PDF so that is not always an option.

I do not know which PDF formats are compatible, but it would be nice to know so I can request those types from clients.

The only fillable PDFs that I know for certain do not work with the activity are dynamic PDFs, and they are not supported. For the others I would try the solution I posted for Farhan.
