asked on November 15, 2013

Please can an authoratitive source from Laserfiche confirm either way whether or not Laserfiche Web Access 9.0.2.744 (20130703) supports sending email via Gmail (Google Mail) SMTP servers?

It is supported. Gmail configuration has changed a bit recently. Where in the past it used to require using SSL over port 465 or 587, recently it's been accepting connections over port 25.

This issue appeared in both Web Access 9.2 and Web Access 10 with slightly different error messages. In both cases, the verification email sent from the configuration page worked, but trying to actually send an email from Web Access threw an error.

This was fixed in the last few months and released in Web Access 10 update 1 (10.0.5.261) and will also be included in the Web Access 10.1 release.

I have tried all three ports without success. Ports 587 and 25 return the message "Unable to send e-mail. Please make sure the information is correct", whilst port 587 just continues to try verifying.

Do you need to enable any inbound traffic on certain firewall ports, like 80, 5050 and 5051?

I would be very grateful for any help anybody can provide with this.

Many thanks.

Important detail: make sure the "reply address" on the configuration page is set to your gmail address as well, that had caused the error for me at first. Makes sense.

I am and have always been specifying a reply address, without success.

I'm actually trying with a Microsoft Office SMTP address of smtp.office365.com:587, but I recieve message Unable to send e-mail. Please make sure the information is correct.

Trying to configure email in Web Access 9.2 to use Gmail, it successfully verifies and sends the test email correctly from the configuration page, but when I try to send an actual email from Web Access, I get the following error:

Error occurred while communicating with SMTP server, please contact your web administrator.

I have tried this directly on the server as well as remotely and both give the same error. I am using the same recipient email address used in the successful verification process. I have also tried this on 3 completely different servers with 3 different repositories, but all give the same error. Can anyone give me some guidance here?

Thanks!

Hey Jim, did you ever solve this issue? I am running into the exact same problem. The SMTP information verifies and sends the e-mail just fine, but when I try to do it from webaccess I get : Error occurred while communicating with SMTP server, please contact your web administrator.

Hi Anthony -

No I never got any response, and since my client decided to go a different route for this, we kinda just dropped it - I would be interested in hearing Laserfiche weigh in on this.
