Question

What are the Advantages of switching from Avante to RIO?

asked on March 22 Show version history

Hello,

Is there any current information (post 2020) on the RIO and Avante comparison, and why someone who was on an Avante licensing package would want to switch to RIO?

Items of note I have pulled from Answers posts with source info dated 2012-2015:

1.  Unlimited Repositorys with RIO, 1 Repository with Avante

3.  Both have LFDS now (I don't believe you have to use it in Avante)

4.  RIO has Advanced Audit Trail, It would need to be purchased separately for use with Avante

Questions I have:

1.  Is Forms included in RIO?  Is it separate for Avante?

2.  Is the Forms Portal included in RIO?  Is it separate for Avante?

3.  Do both include Workflow?

4.  Do both include Import Agent?

5.  Do both include Quickfields?

6.  Am I right in stating that RIO is the whole meal (Appetizer to Dessert) and Avante is Ala Carte (select the components you need)?

I know there are other things I have missed.  Hoping there is an up to date comparison that can be provided to help make a decision.

Is there a compelling reason to change to RIO from Avante?

Thanks,

Christine

These answers are based on perpetual licensing. Subscription licensing would be different and can be found on Laserfiche's website.

1. Forms is included for both. There are two different flavors of Forms though (3 if you count Forms Portal), Forms Essentials and Forms Professional. I believe Professional is included with Rio, but is a separate upgrade for Avante.

2. Forms Portal is a subscription or perpetual option for Rio.

3. Yes, both include Workflow

4. Import Agent is a separate purchase for both.

5. Quick Fields is a separate purchase for both.

Some other things you get with Rio vs Avante are with LFDS. With Rio you get everything LFDS offers for Avante, plus:

  • LFDS Cluster Support
  • LFDS Audit Reporting
  • Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS)
  • SAML

I'm happy to meet with you to discuss further if you want. Just let me know.

I would honestly look at the subscription licensing options though and compare whether you want to do that or Rio.

Christine, with our state contract you should definitely look into the subscription options for converting from Avante
