Configuring/Restoring Full Image Backups of Laserfiche

Hello, does anyone know if there's documentation out there on performing full image backups of a Laserfiche environment and what to expect when restoring them?

Today we attempted to test out a recovery of a Laserfiche environment and we ran into issues. We spun up a cloned image of the LF Environment on a VM in the cloud (Datto is the cloud backup vendor we work with) and attempted to test out the applications.

Now I understand that the machine licensing would prevent most of the software from running properly so we were going to be satisfied just getting the repository to load up in "classic\read only" and the application pages (Forms mainly) to say the product is unlicensed/expired.

First, none of the web applications (LFDS/Forms) would load at all (this looks like it could be an issue with IIS but wanted to report it)

Second, we checked the LF Admin console and the LF server said Product Edition: Laserfiche Classic as expected, but when I attempted to log into the repository from the admin console I got an error "General Database Error".

I figure I could try reattaching the repository as all the volume files and databases were present but at that point we decided it was best to reach out and see if there was any supporting documentation on configuring and restoring Full Image Backups w/Laserfiche.

Also, we talked with a representative from Datto and he mentioned that they rely on Windows Shadow Copies for Image backups. He pointed out that the Laserfiche VSS Writer service was set to manual instead of automatic and wasn't running. By default this service is set to manual and stopped so I figured Laserfiche interacts with it when necessary but now I'm not sure that's accurate.

I really don't know anything about the VSS Writer for Laserfiche and only have a simple understanding of VSS as whole.

What is the benefit/drawback of turning VSS to automatic?

I'm commenting to hopefully come back and give a more extensive response when time permits. To provide an answer to your immediate question, the Laserfiche VSS Writer only affects repository search catalog files. You can find more details in the documentation page here:
