Forms - uploading a google doc

asked on September 20, 2017

We're using Forms 10.2.  When trying to upload a Google Doc, users get a "File size or type is invalid".  Is there a way to get it to accept Google Docs? or is that unsupported for now?

Hi Paul,

For "upload a Google Doc", did you upload with a file downloaded from Google Docs, or with a URL link or Google Docs?

File upload only accepts files from disk/network disk.

Thanks for your reply.  It accepts files from Google Drive if they're in a different format like MS Office or PDF.

Is the issue with files from some sort of Google Drive sync with your local disk? What types/formats of files are you trying to upload?

No, I was trying to upload a gdoc (Google Doc) file using a Chromebook.  It gave me the error when the file was left in the native Google Doc file format.

In the File Upload field configuration in the Forms Designer, try adding gdoc and/or gsheet to the file extensions allowed list. That worked for me. the

Hi Paul,

The error you mentioned "File size or type is invalid" would show when the selected file size is 0KB.

I tried a .gdoc file on my local machine, the file size is not 0KB so uploading works. If you open the gdoc file with notepad it should contain the url for openning in browser.

Can you check the file you used for uploading?

Thanks Rui and Jared for your responses.

Jared, I tried adding the extension in the File Upload field configuration in the Forms Designer but it didn't work for me. Is there a config file on the server that I need to modify to allow gdoc and gsheet?

Rui, the file I was uploading looked okay and wasn't 0 bytes.
