Both AD FS support and multi-factor authentication are currently available for Rio and subscription customers when using LFDS Single Sign On (SSO) for web applications.

AD FS support has been around since 10.4.2 of Directory Server, released in 2017. If you want to use multi-factor authentication for AD FS authentication, this should be configured in Microsoft's AD FS settings.

Multi-factor authentication for LFDS users was released in Directory Server 10.4.3, in December 2019.

Wondering if someone from Laserfiche can chime in on this? It would be great if there were built in authenticators that could be enabled for the Web Client or Forms such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

Im also wondering if this will be a feature implemented onto Rio and Avante systems in the future. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Multi-factor authentication through a virtual MFA app such as Google Authenticator is currently on the roadmap for LFDS --- which would support applications using Single-Sign On.

Can you share some scenarios you've seen for MFA requests?

For example:

  • Is it for LFDS users only?
  • Would MFA be required for all users? Most users?
  • Does the option to authenticate with AD FS (which has support for MFA) address the MFA needs for Windows users?

I would also like an update on this. We would like to use AD FS as well as multi-factor for LFDS users.

Is there an update on this? I have a RIO client who needs to have multi-factor authentication in place soon.

Hi David,

I'd pose the same questions to you as I did above: can you share the some specifics from your for MFA requests?

For example:

  • Is it for LFDS users only, or is it needed for Windows users as well?
  • Would MFA be required for all users? Most users?
  • Would the option to authenticate with AD FS (which has support for MFA) address the MFA needs for Windows users?

Multi-factor authentication for global Laserfiche users only through a virtual MFA app such as Google Authenticator is currently on the roadmap, since all other user types have a way to configure MFA through their identity provider.
